Puranas
They are the records of lives of ancient people. They are not the historical or chronological records in the wetsern sense. Nor are they mythology as the westerners called them. Theycdeal with how our ancestors, in thier wisdom, understood life with the help of the Veda and the teachings of Ancient Rishis and lived in various conditions. They are said to be commentaries of the Veda and the Vedanta.
There are mainly eighteen Puranas. but there some Upapuranas too which too constitute eighteen. Number is not imortant but what they teach us.
we shall try to understand from them, as we proceed.
